Rittman played in the District Championship game at Medina High School on October 28, 2017. The game was played at 2 pm against a familiar foe, the Dalton Bulldogs. Both teams went all out throughout the duration of the game, but ultimately Dalton came out on top winning the decisive 5th set 15-13 (25-22, 22-25, 20-25, 25-22, 13-15). The Indians played their hearts out, displaying their intensity and raw emotion. The Indians had a strong serving game as Katie Thomas had 5 aces, Abbey Jenkins had 2 aces, Cora Wilson had 1 ace, Erica Gasser had 1 ace, Mason Rupp had 1 ace, and Maddie Like had 1 ace. Gasser and Thomas had monster spiking games, as they slammed home 20 and 15 kills, respectively. Emily Hovest also swatted 7 kills, Bri Busic hammered home 5 kills, Like had 2 kills, and Ally Flaisman added 1 kill. Setting up and running the attack were Jenkins with 23 assists and Gasser with 20 assists. The Indians racked up quite the stats in blocking on the day, as Gasser and Busic each had 3 blocks, Hovest had 2 blocks, and Flaismand and Rupp each added 1 block. Anchoring the defense were Thomas with 15 digs, Wilson with 14 digs, Rupp with 7 digs, Gasser with 6 digs, Jenkins with 4 digs, Hovest with 3 digs, Like with 3 digs, and Flaisman with 1 dig.
The Indians have ended their season with an overall record of 17-8. This has been one of the most successful seasons in Rittman Volleyball history, as the girls have tied the school record win wins, and made the first District Championship in over 30 years. The squad also was 3rd in the very talented and competitive WCAL, and also have won their 4th straight sectional title. The girls have worked so hard to get where they did, and it truly goes to show that with dedication, confidence, love for the game, and love for their teammates, anything can be achieved.
