Played with only one official – shortage!
Rittman controlled the first half, Northwestern had the better in the second half.
The first goal came with 19:30 to to go, when Grant Frase slipped a head ball in the box to Michael McDermott who chest trapped it, then rifled it into the net.
Rittman made it 2-0 when Grant Frase crossed a ball to Will Swartz on the left side and he settled, dribbled around two defenders and found a corner.
Northwestern scored with 6:13 remaining when Hunter Stidham connected on a loose ball that would not clear the area and Hunter placed it in the lower right corner.
Both teams had opportunities, probably Rittman had the better ones. Both Keepers played well, with Scheibe making some spectacular saves late in the second half.
Also showing exceptional play for Rittman were:
Logan Leach – he moved to stopper (defender) and helped anchor an already solid unit. They were all exceptionally tough.
Cade Cook played the attacking Center-mid and definitely sparked the attack. Also, Michael McDermott was solid on center-mid defense and contributed to the attack on the other end.
Kyle Scheibe has been great all season and showed his skilled when needed today.
This was a great team win. First one over Northwestern in nine years. We now have five wins with 8 games to go. Last year we ended with five wins. That was the best since 2008 – when we went to districts.
Rittman is now in 3rd place in the league, one point behind Smithville, while Northwestern is in fifth almost half way through league play.
Up next for Northwestern is Chippewa on Tuesday, Sept 19.
Rittman plays Tuesday, Sept 19 at Waynedale.
Coach Bud, Rittman
The JV match ended with the Huskies pulling off the 1-0 victory. An excellently officiated game saw Jarod Love take his first ever corner kick!
