The Rittman Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Northwestern and won 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 25-13, 25-22). The Indians started the night off slow with a loss in game 1, but then turned it around and played like a well oiled machine to comeback and fend off the Huskies.
Leading the Indians in serves was senior Maddie Like with 10 points and 1 ace, junior Sarah Hovest with 9 points and 4 aces, junior Miranda Brainard with 9 points and 3 aces, senior Amy Hunter with 8 points and 3 aces, sophomore Makayla Yarman with 1 point and 1 ace, and senior Bri Busic with 3 aces. The Tribe was lighting it up at the net all night long, as 3 players were in the double digits for kills. Busic and Hovest each pounded out 12 kills, while Like was right behind them spiking down 11 kills. Also adding a kill for Rittman was Hunter with 1 kill. Setting up the strong Indian attack was Hunter, as she had 31 well-placed assists to lead her team. Also recording assists was Like with 2 assists and freshman Emma Berkihiser with 1 assist. Rittman had a strong defensive night, as a host of players were digging up the Husky attack all night long. Libero Miranda Brainard recorded 11 digs, Like had 9 digs, Busic had 5 digs, Hovest had 3 digs, Yarman had 3 digs, and Berkihiser had 1 dig. Passing up perfect passes from the Husky serves were Brainard with 25 serve receptions, Like with 20 serve receptions, Busic with 9 serve receptions, Hovest with 3 serve receptions, and Berkihiser with 1 serve reception. Busic had a big night blocking, as she stuffed the Northwestern offense with 4 blocks. Hovest also added 1 block.
With the win, Rittman now sits at a 2-3 overall record and a 2-0 record in the WCAL. They play next this Saturday in a tri-match at Strasburg, where they will take on Strasburg and Tuslaw. Great win tonight Rittman and keep the momentum rolling into the weekend games!
