The Rittman Varsity Volleyball team hosted Chippewa and fell in a 5 set thriller 3-2 (21-25, 12-25, 25-17, 25-17, 10-15). After losing the first 2 sets, the Indians made a heck of a comeback, but simply couldn’t put the finishing touches on the night. Nevertheless, the Tribe played hard and will be ready for the rematch against the Chipps on October 3rd.
Serving for the Indians were senior Maddie Like with 11 points, junior Sarah Hovest with 8 points, junior Miranda Brainard with 6 points and 2 aces, sophomore Makayala Yarman with 5 points and 1 ace, senior Amy Hunter with 3 points and 7 aces, and senior Bri Busic with 3 points and 2 aces. Setter Amy Hunter led the Indian attack with 21 assists. Helping out with assists on the evening were Brainard with 2 assists and Yarman with 1 assist. Slamming home kills throughout the game were Busic with 9 kills, Hovest with 5 kills, Like with 3 kills, Hunter with 2 kills, Yarman with 1 kill, and freshman Emma Berkihiser with 1 kill. On the defensive end, leading the Indians in digs was libero Miranda Brainard with 24 digs. Also digging for Rittman was Hovest with 13 digs, Like with 9 digs, Busic with 7 digs, Hunter with 2 digs, and sophomore Mackenzie Fox with 2 digs. Blocking Chippewa spikes were the twin towers in the middle, as Busic had 5 solo blocks and Hovest had 3 solo blocks. Yarman also added 1 block assist. Leading in serve recieve was Brainard with 21 serve receptions, Also helping out was Like with 8 serve receptions, Hovest with 5 serve receptions, Fox with 4 serve receptions, and Busic with 3 serve receptions.
With the loss, Rittman is now sitting at a 5-7 overall record and 2-3 in the WCAL. The Indians play next at home this Thursday (9/12) against Smithville. Come out and show your support!
