The Rittman Varsity Volleyaball team played last night against the Lake Ridge Academy Royals in the Division 4 District Semi-finals. The Indians won a barnburner match with a score of 3-2 (19-25, 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 15-11). The game was held at Medina High School.
The Indians were led in serving by Abbey Jenkins with 12 points and 6 aces, Erica Gasser with 10 points, Emily Hovest with 8 points and 1 ace, Miranda Brainard with 8 points, Maddie Like with 5 points and 1 ace, Bri Busic with 4 points, and Ally Flaisman with 1 point. Leading the Indians in kills was Erica Gasser, as she slammed home a career high 28 kills. Also getting kills were Emily Hovest swatting 14 kills, Busic and Sarah Hovest each slamming 4 kills, Ally Flaisman adding 2 kills, and Abbey Jenkins adding 1 kill. Setting up the attack was Jenkins, as she recorded 46 assists. Also assisting their teammates were Gasser with 2 assists and Brainard with 1 assist. Leading in blocks was Gasser as she blocked 7 shots from the Royals. Also playing big at the net and getting blocks were Flaisman with 2 blocks and Busic with 1 block. Defense was an absolute key in beating Lake Ridge, as Gasser had 25 digs, Like had 22 digs, Jenkins had 21 digs, E Hovest had 18 digs, Brainard had 8 digs, Andrea Akers had 8 digs, Flaisman had 5 digs, S Hovest had 2 digs, and Busic had 1 dig.
Rittman now sits at a 17-7 overall record. The Indians will play in the District Championship against the Dalton Bulldogs for the 2nd year in a row. The game will be held this Saturday at 2:30pm at Medina High School. The girls have worked so hard this year and are not finished yet.
