There are no moral victories, but with a slim roster against a talented team, this one was well played.
The Smithies scored both goals in the first half. Goal # 1 was a shot taken, in a crowd, from point blank distance (about 7 yards) that had little chance of being stopped. The second goal scored when a ground ball hit a divot and bounced high over keeper Kyle Scheibe’s head, who had gone low for the save.
Scheibe did have several great saves including a second half penalty kick.
The make shift defense held its own as well with Nick Swartz, Seth Cornelius and Keshaun Clark defending the center. Jarod Harvey made several defensive saves as did Michael Aloisi. Even forwards Eli Vale and Aiden Loverink were pulled back to help at times. This was a strong team effort to give a good showing.
Logan St Clair also saw limited time for the first time in over three weeks. There were many positives, especially looking forward to the final two regular season games and preparing for the tournament run beginning next Tuesday (10/15) at Manchester.
Next up, highly rated Crestwood in the polar regions of Portage County on Thursday (10/10) at 7 p.m. at Jack Lambert Stadium!
